Mr. and Mrs. Sharma went to Woodlands Apparel to buy a shirt. Mr. Sharma did not read the price tag on the piece selected by him. At the counter, while making the payment he asked for the price. Rs. 950 was the answer.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Sharma, who was still shopping came back and joined her husband. She was glad that he had selected a nice black shirt for himself. She pointed out that there was a 25% discount on that item. The counter person nodded in agreement.

Mr. Sharma was thrilled to hear that "It means the price of this shirt is just Rs. 712. That’s fantastic", said Mr. Sharma. He decided to buy one more shirt in blue color.

In no time, he returned with the second shirt and asked them to be packed. When he received the cash memo for payment, he was astonished to find that he had to pay Rs. 1,900 instead of Rs.1, 424.

Mr. Sharma could hardly reconcile himself to the fact that the counter person had quoted the discounted price which was Rs. 950. The original price printed on the price tag was Rs. 1,266.

Answer:-

1. It was very clear that Mr. Sharma did not read the price tag on the shirt. Had he seen the price tag he could have avoided the confusion. He also relied on his wife when she told him that the shirt has 25% discount on it, rather he got excited and bought one more. He did not pay attention to the fact that whether the price which the cashier told is the discounted Price or before discount. He should have asked the cashier if the price he told is after discount or before discount or he should have seen the pricetag himself to avoid the confusion ☹️Chandigarh university ‍♂️walo

1. Firstly, Mr. Sharma should have looked at the price tag of the shirt.    Even when Mrs. Sharma told him that the shirt had a discount of 25 %, Mr. Sharma, out of excitement went with his wife's words without cross-checking the fact. Mr. Sharma also did not bother to ask the counter person if the discount was already included in the price.

Mrs. Sharma wasn't done shopping till then which means she was not aware of the shirt that Mr. Sharma was going to buy. She came in between and told her husband that there was a discount of 25% just because it was written on the price tag. She did not ask the counter person if the discount was already availed.

The counter person is also to blame here. When Mr. Sharma exclaimed, " It means the price of this shirt is just Rs. 712. That’s fantastic ", the counter person should have understood that Mr. Sharma was getting a wrong impression of the price of the shirt. The counter person should have stopped Mr. Sharma and explained to him properly that the price on the tag was the discounted price itself and he was not going to get the product at Rs. 712.

2. The specific seven C's of Communication that was missing in the scenario and led to the confusion are

  • Clarity
  • Correctness
  • Conciseness
  • Courtesy
  • Concreteness
  • Consideration
  • Completeness
