Given :- Mr.gupta has taken a debt at the rate of 7.5%pa. After 3.5 years he redeems himself the debt by paying a sum of Rs.4545. Find the sum borrowed by Mr.Gupta. ?

Solution :-

Let us assume that, Mr.Gupta borrowed Rs x.

then,

→ Principal = Rs x

→ Rate = 7.5 % per annum.

→ Time = 3.5 years.

So,

→ Simple interest paid = (P * R * T)/100 = (x * 7.5 * 3.5) / 100 = Rs. (0.2625x)

now,

→ Total Amount paid = Principal + Simple interest = x + (0.2625x) = Rs. 1.2625x

given that, he redeems himself the debt by paying a sum of Rs.4545.

therefore,

→ 1.2625x = 4545

→ (12625x/10000) = 4545

→ 12625x = 4545 * 10000

→ x = Rs.3600 (Ans.)

Hence, the sum borrowed by Mr.Gupta was Rs.3600 .
