Step-by-step explanation:

Let the son's age be x

∴ Mr Gupta age = 6x

After 5 years,

Sons age: x+5 and Mr Gupta age = 6x +5

According to question,

x+5 = 1/3 (6x+5)

3(x+5) = 6x+5

3x+15 = 6x+5

15-5 = 6x-3x

10 = 3x

x= 10/3 = 3.33 i.e. 3 or 4 (round of)

When x = 3:

present age of son = x = 3

and mr, gupta = 6x = 6*3 = 18

When x = 4:

present age of son = x = 4

and mr, gupta = 6x = 6*4 = 24
