Mr Lam always saves 4/5(fraction)
of his monthly salary. If his monthly salary is increased by $324, his monthly savings will be $3944. How much is Mr Lam's monthly salary before the increase?

Solution :-

Let us assume that, Mr. Lam monthly salary was $x .

so,

→ His saving = (4/5) of x = $(4x/5)

now,

→ new salary = $(x + 324) .

then,

→ saving = (4/5) * (x + 324)

A/q,

→ (x +324)(4/5) = 3944

→ 4x + 1296 = 3944 * 5

→ 4x = 19720 - 1296

→ 4x = 18424

→ x = $4606 (Ans.)

Hence, monthly salary before increase was $4606.

To Find : How much is Mr Lam's monthly salary before the increase?

Solution:

Let say Mr.  Lam salary before increase =  5P  $

Saving = (4/5)5P  = 4P  $

salary is increased by $324

New salary  = 5P + 324 $

New Saving  = (4/5)(5P + 324)

= 4P  + 259.2

4P  + 259.2  = 3944

=> 4P = 3,684.8

=> P = 921.2

=> 5P = 4,606

Lam's monthly salary before the increase  = 4,606 $
