since, it is a open tank.
hence, there is no lid for it.

so, to find total area of sheet required by calculating the area of base and the lateral surface area.

so our calculation will be as shown in fig.

Here,

In the question, Dimensions are given.

So we can say that the tank is not circular, it is of cuboid shape.

Now,

The tank is open, so there will be no lid for the top.

To find the Surface Area, we calculate LSA and Area of the base.

Dimensions of tank :-

Length = 3.5 unit

Breadth = 1.5 unit

Height = 2 unit

LSA = 2 ( length + Breadth ) Height

= 2 ( 3.5 + 1.5 ) 2

= 4 × 5

= 20 unit²

Now,

Area of the base = Length × Breadth

= 3.5 × 1.5

= 5.25 unit²

Total surface area :-

= 20 + 5.25
