Number of oranges = x

Initial Cost of oranges = 15 rs

Cost of 1 orange = (15/x) rs

Number of oranges after 3 being eaten by the servant = (x - 3)

Initial Cost of oranges = 15 rs

Cost of 1 orange = (15/x-3) rs

Extra money paid on each orange = 25 paise = 0.25 rs

∴ 15/(x - 3) - 15/x  = 0.25

15 (x - x + 3) / x (x - 3) = 0.25

3 * 3 / x^2 - 3x = 0.05

multiply by 20

180 / x^2 - 3x = 1

180 = x^2 - 3x

0 = x^2 - 3x - 180

0 = x^2 + 12x - 15x - 180

0 = x (x + 12) - 15 (x + 12)

0 = (x - 15) (x + 12)

x- 15 = 0                              |   x + 12 = 0

x = 15 oranges : Ans                   |    x = -12 (rejected according to nature)

Answer:I Know

Step-by-step explanation:Number of oranges = x

Initial Cost of oranges = 15 rs

Cost of 1 orange = (15/x) rs

Number of oranges after 3 being eaten by the servant = (x - 3)

Initial Cost of oranges = 15 rs

Cost of 1 orange = (15/x-3) rs

Extra money paid on each orange = 25 paise = 0.25 rs

∴ 15/(x - 3) - 15/x  = 0.25

15 (x - x + 3) / x (x - 3) = 0.25

3 * 3 / x^2 - 3x = 0.05

multiply by 20

180 / x^2 - 3x = 1

180 = x^2 - 3x

0 = x^2 - 3x - 180

0 = x^2 + 12x - 15x - 180

0 = x (x + 12) - 15 (x + 12)

0 = (x - 15) (x + 12)

x- 15 = 0                              |   x + 12 = 0

x = 15 oranges : Ans                   |    x = -12 (rejected according to nature)
