After  5.40 pm. he will be able to ring bell

Given:

Mr Naresh starts journey in east direction from point A at 9 AM and ends journey at 7pm.

He walks at a speed of 3 km/hour for 1 hour and walks backward at a speed 1 km/hour for 1 hour.

Again he turns back and walks at a speed of 3 km/hour for 1 hour and walks backward at a speed 1 km/hour for 1 hour.

He keeps on doing it till end of the journey.

To find:

At what time he will be able to ring bell which is kept at a distance of 10 km from A in east direction?

Explanation:

Mr Naresh starts journey in east direction from point A at 9 AM

He walks at a speed of 3 km/hour

At 10 Am he reaches 3 km from home.

After that he turns back and walks 1 km/hour for 1 hour.

So at 11 Am he reaches 3-1 = 2 km from home.

So on the similar way at 1 pm he reaches 2+2 = 4 km from home.

So at 5 pm he reaches = 8 km from home.

After that he walked 3 km/hour east direction from point A

So clearing 2 km distance time required = \frac{2}{3} hour =  \frac{2}{3} × 60 = 40 min.

So after  5.40 pm.  he will be able to ring bell.
