Mr. Sachin, a civil engineer undertook the construction of a multistoried hotel
to be completed in 140 days. He employed 180 laborers to complete it. At the
end of 76 days, only half of the work was done, so he hired 10 extra laborers and
completed the work. By how many days did he exceed the specified time?

Solution :-

Given that, 180 laborers started to construct a multistoried hotel and at the end of 76 days they completed half of the work .

So, we can say that,

→ work Left to be done = 1 - (1/2) = (1/2)

and ,

→ 180 laborers completed half work in = 76 days.

Now, he hired 10 extra laborers, and now we have to find in how many days , (180 + 10) laborers can completed the remaining (1/2) work .

So, we have,

  • L1 = 180
  • D1 = 76
  • W1 = (1/2)
  • L2 = 190
  • D2 = ?
  • W2 = (1/2)

we know that,

  • If M1 men can do W1 work in D1 days and M2 men can do W2 work in D2 days, then :-
  • (M1*D1)/W1 = (M2*D2)/W2

Putting all values we get,

→ (180 * 76) / (1/2) = (190 * D2) / (1/2)

→ 180 * 76 = 190 * D2

→ 18 * 76 = 19 * D2

→ 18 * 4 = D2

→ D2 = 72 days.

Therefore,

→ Total Number of days took to complete the work = 76 + 72 = 148 days.

Hence,

Exceed the specified time by = 148 - 140 = 8 days. (Option A) (Ans.)
