Given :

Mr. Sunil bought shirts for 750 Rs. and sold each shirt for Rs. 42.00.

To Find :

The amount of shirts he bought.

Solution :

Let the number of shirts bought by Mr. Sunil = x

Total price of x shirts = 750

The price for one shirt = \frac{750}{x}

Each shirt sold for Rs. 42.

Selling price of shirts = 42x

Profit = selling price - cost price

Profit = 42x - 750

With this profit Sunil purchased 10 more shirts than before. So the equation will be

10\times \frac{750}{x} = 42x - 750

42x² - 750x - 7500 = 0

7x² - 125x - 1250 = 0

7x² - 175x + 50x - 1250 = 0

7x( x - 25 ) + 50 (x - 25) = 0

(7x + 50) (x - 25) = 0

x = 25, -\frac{50}{7}

But x can not be a negative value.

Therefore, number of shirts purchased = 25
