Answer:

(c) 9:10 pm

Step-by-step explanation:

Rate of X = 40 pages/hour

Rate of Y = 50 pages/hour

In  1 and 1/2 hour (4:30-6:00pm) , X will read = 40 * 3/2 = 60 pages

In 40 minutes (5;20 - 6:00pm) Y will read = 50* 2/3 = 100/3 pages

They again start reading and 6:30 pm

Difference at 6:30 pm = 60 - 100/3 = 80/3 pages .

X is ahead by 80/3 pages.

In one hour X reads 10 page less than Y

In 1/3 hour (20 minutes)  X will read 10/3 pages less than Y.

So for 80/3 pages , time required = 20*8= 160 minutes = 2 Hour 40 Minutes

X and Y will be reading the same page at 6:30+ 2 Hour 40 Minutes

= 9:10 pm
