Answer :-

The amount of money Mr. X had is Rs. 105/2.

Step-by-step Explanation

To Find :-

The initial amount of money Mr. X had.

Solution

Given that,

Mr. X had certain amount of money.

Money spent by him on buying a pen = Rs. 10¼

Money spent on food = Rs. 25¾

The remaining money Mr. X gave to his friend = Rs. 16½

Total amount of money spent -

  • Rs. 10¼ + Rs. 25¾ + Rs. 16½

On simplifying,

→ 10¼ + 25¾ + 16½

→ 41/4 + 103/4 + 33/2

→ (44 + 103)/4 + 33/2

→ 144/4 + 33/2

→ 36 + 33/2

→ (2*36 + 33)/2

→ (72 + 33)/2

105/2

Hence,

The money Mr. X initially had is Rs. 105/2.
