✯Qᴜᴇsᴛɪᴏɴ :-

Mrs.Ali baked some muffins. 3/5 of the muffins were chocolate and the rest were vanilla. After he sold 2/9 of the chocolate muffins and 1/2 of the vanilla muffins, 230 muffins were left. How many chocolate muffins did Mrs.Ali bake?

✯Gɪᴠᴇɴ :-

  • 3/5 muffins were chocolate.
  • Sold 2/9 chocolate muffins.
  • sold 1/2 vanilla muffins.
  • 230 muffins were still left.

✯Sᴏʟᴜᴛɪᴏɴ :-

Let total number of muffins be 'x'

We know....3/5 muffins were chocolate.

So,

  • Total number of chocolate muffins = 3x/5

Vanilla muffins = x - 3x/5

  • Total number of vanilla muffins = 2x/5

Now she sold 2/9 of chocolate muffins and 1/2 of vanilla muffins.....and 230 muffins are left.

Total muffins - sold muffins = Left muffins

x - ( \frac{3}{5}x \times \frac{2}{9} + \frac{2}{5}x \times \frac{1}{2} ) = 230 \\ \\ x - ( \frac{6}{45}x + \frac{1}{5}x ) = 230 \\ \\ x - \frac{15}{45}x = 230 \\ \\ x - \frac{1}{3} x = 230 \\ \\ \frac{2x}{3} = 230 \\ \\ x = \frac{230 \times 3}{2} \\ \\ x = 345

Therefore , 345 muffins were baked by Mrs. Ali
