A Room 10*8 by KS Duggal reflects the daily social structure of modern Indian households, with ties extending to the point of total disintegration. In Indian homes there is no love, sympathy, friendliness, mutual trust and fellowship. Christian ideals have been swept up by materialism. The story recalls the saying "As you sow, so reap" . A typical housewife, Mrs. Malik, was keen to create her dream house in Delhi's posh colony. In her heart, she decided she would only live in Delhi after her house had been built because she's sick. She decided on the large 10"x8 "store, as her mother-in-law could use it and  it into a storehouse after her death.

Explanation:

  • Mrs. Malik lived an impatient life, watching build her home, planning a room for her mother-in-law a high class society for her baby's wife and her settlement in Delhi. Mrs Malik took a lot of pain as her house was being built. She skipped her meals and withstood the sun's heat while supervising the constrution progress. She was also drenched in heavy rain.
  • Mrs. Malik had taken great interest in building and furnishing her home, at time. She stood in the rain and the sun when her house was being built. She also supported mason with the morter mason and the bricks. On the plaster wall, she poured water.
  • Ms. Malik was inhumane in reality, but she felt it was all practicality. She is right in her decision to remain in Delhi  for the sake of her children's education and to some degree, in her decision to send Mr Malik alone on another transfer; However, the thought of  keeping her aged mother-in-law in a small room that is intended in the future, afte the death of her mother-in-law, to be a storeroom shows Mrs. Mallik's evil side.
  • Finally towards the end, we read that Mr. Mallik dies and so also her mother-in-law dies, and Mrs. Mallik's son get married. Mrs. Mallik as a mother in law disliked  her daughter-in-law many times. rs. As a person she is diligent, but at the same time greedy and jealous. She is jealous of her daughter-in-law’s strange ways and did not share a good rapport with her daughter-in- law.
  • When the time came to move into the new house, Mrs. Mallik was given the same 10*8 room that she had planned for her mother-in-law, by her daugther-in-law.  Mrs. Mallik on seeing this realises he mistake of having thoughts  for her mother-in-law years back and in the present she takes living in the 10*8 room given by her son and daughter-in-law and took it to repay for what she had thought for her mother-in-law years ago.
