Mrs.packletide wished to kill a tiger because it was the only way she could think of getting more publicity than the social rival Loona Bimberton who had received a lot of media attention for her feat of having travel in an air plane for 11 miles.This nature of Mrs.packletide made her to give an party to Loona and show off her success and watch her getting jealous. Mrs. packletide found out a village which had a old tiger in the neighbourhood. she promised to pay a 1000 rupees if they help her to hunt it down.
An old tiger on the verge of death was chosen because it presented very little risk to Mrs. packletide while hunting. The villagers helped Mrs. packletide by some ways like left their pet animals around show that the tiger did not stray from the village in search of food. Secondly, they took care not to disturb the tiger when it was resting.Thirdly, they helped set up a hunting platform for Mrs.packletide. Finally they tied up a goat with a loud bleat to attract the tiger.Mrs. packletide had a payed companion Miss Mebbin.
Mrs. packletide missed the shot and by mistake she killed the goat instead of tiger. The tiger had died because of heart attack.Miss Mebbin used this circumstances against her and she black mailed so Mrs. packletide was forced to buy a week end cottage at darking.She had to pay a heavy price to keep the secret of the hunt. The villagers knew that the wrong animal had been hit but anxious for the 1000 rupees gladly agreed at the fiction that Mrs. packletide had killed the tiger.
