Given: Mrs. Perez bought 1/2 of kilogram chicken and 3/4 kilogram of beef.

To find: Kilograms of meat she bought.

Solution:

  • In order to find the number of total kilograms of meat, the given fractions of chicken and beef are to be added up.
  • For the adding of the given fractions, the denominators of them are to be made equal by taking L.C.M..
  • The L.C.M. of 2 and 4 is found to be 4 and hence, we change the numerators according to it.
  • The fraction, now, looks like this.

        \frac{2}{4} + \frac{3}{4} = \frac{2+3}{4}

                  = \frac{5}{4}kg

Therefore, the kilograms of meat she bought was 5/4 kg.
