Humans actually don't require a lot to survive. It's because some of us are privileged, that we buy more than what we actually need. The resources we have are enough for us to survive but not enough to satisfy our greed or desire. With reference to Mrs. Pumphrey, she bought a lot of unnecessary items for Trickie because she was rich and Tricki was the only one she could dote on. So she spoiled it and bought a whole wardrobe of tweed coats, different bowls for different meals, and different beds.
