.Mrs.Sharma has one farm of area 1080 sq meters. She is planning to grow 6 vegetables this season and hence has divided her farm into three unequal parts so that she can grow two vegetables on each part. Area of largest part of the farm is 580 sq meters, the area of smallest farm is 180 sq meters. Help her with the problems she is facing mathematically.
(a) On the largest part she wants to grow potato and onion in the ratio 19:10. Find the area covered by potato and onion separately.
b) On the medium part of the farm, she is willing to grow capsicum and ladyfinger in the ratio of 16:64. If the cost of planting the crop of capsicum per sq. m. is ₹35 and that of growing ladyfinger is ₹47. Find the cost of planting each crop.
c) After harvesting, she got cauliflower and tomato in the ratio of 27:36 respectively from the smallest part of the farm. If the weight of cauliflowers is 240 kg, find the weight of tomatoes grown by Mrs. Sharma.

Given :  Mrs.Sharma has one farm of area 1080 sq meters.

She is planning to grow 6 vegetables

largest part of the farm is 580 sq meters,

the area of smallest farm is 180 sq meters.

To Find :  On the largest part she wants to grow potato and onion in the ratio 19:10. Find the area covered by  potato and onion separately.

Solution:

Mrs.Sharma has one farm of area 1080 sq meters.

largest part of the farm is 580 sq meters,

the area of smallest farm is 180 sq meters.

area of  Medium part = 1080 - (580 + 180)  =  320 sq meters

On the largest part she wants to grow potato and onion in the ratio 19:10.

=> Potato = (19/29) * 580  = 380  sq meters

   Onion = (10/29)  * 580  = 200  sq meters

On the medium part of the farm, she is willing to grow capsicum and ladyfinger in the ratio of 16:64  =  1 : 4

Capsicums  =  ( 1/5) * 320  = 64 sq meters

Cost of planting Capsicums   = 35 *  64  =  Rs 2240

ladyfinger =  ( 4/5) * 320  =256 sq meters

Cost of planting ladyfinger = 47 * 256 = Rs 12,032

Cauliflower and tomato in the ratio of 27:36 respectively from the smallest part   = 3 : 4

3/ 4  = 240 / x   => x  = 320 kg

Weight of tomato = 320 kg
