this statement is said by Mrs. Slater because her sister Mrs. Jordan always wanted to find faults with the people and she had an irritating air of always being right.

This was spoken by slater when Henry first entered the house and she asked him to remove his boots.Because She knows Elizabeth is so cunning that she will try all means to critizise any mistakes of Amelia and make fun of them
