Mrs Slater is an
ungrateful, selfish, materialistic and unethical woman. Firstly, she is not sad and upset over her father's death. Secondly, she is only
concerned about her share of property of her deceased father. Thirdly, she steals her
father's bureau, slippers, and clock before the arrival of her sister. Fourthly, she is
not concerned about sending for a doctor to have her father examined.
All the above mentioned evidences are sufficient to prove she was quite a materialistic character.

When she is sure about the death of her father, she tries to grab all the essentials of her father first. Then she turns her attention to his insurance policy. She doesn’t want anyone to come there before she takes everything in her possession. She has no sympathy for anyone
