Mt. Everest is at a height of 8850 m. It's base is at an elevation of 5400 m. The temperature here drops at the rate of 1 degree per 100 metres. If the temperature at the base is -5°C, what is the temperature at the top?
[HINT: Temperature at the base is more than temperature at the top.]

Explanation:

temperature drop from 5400 = 1 Degree per hundred metre

height of top = 8850 m

temperature at base equal - 5 degree

height of top from base equal 8850 - 5400 = 3450 m

total drop in temperature equal 3450 100 = 34.5 degree

so temperature at top = - 5 - 34.5 = -39.5 degree
