Mucormycosis is a very rare infection. It is caused by exposure to mucor mould which is commonly found in soil, plants, manure, and decaying fruits and vegetables. It is not a communicable disease.

There's no way to avoid breathing in spores. But you can protect yourself by taking few steps like:

1. Stay away from areas with a lot of dust or soil, like construction or excavation sites. If you have to be in these areas, wear a face mask.

2. Avoid infected water(like floodwater).
