Answer:

Let the number of goat is g

and number of hen is h

A/q

counting head

g+h = 40___(1)

counting legs

and 4g +2h = 112

⇒2g +h = 56___(2)

subtracting (1) and (2),we get

g = 16

so, h = 40-16 = 24

∴number of goat is 16 and number of hen is 24

Answer:

Number of hens in shed is 24 hens.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that :

  • Total number of legs = 112
  • Total number of heads = 40

To find :

  • Number of hens in the shed

Solution :

  • Let the number of goats in the shed be g and the number of hens in the shed be h.
  • Since, each hen has 2 legs and each goat has 4 legs.
  • Total number of legs of all hens is 2h and Total number of legs of all goats is 4g.
  • Total legs in the shed = Total number of legs of all hens + Total number of legs of all goats

112 = 2h + 4g \:  \:  -  -  - (1)

  • Total number of heads in shed = total head of hens + total head of goats.

40 = h + g    \:  \: ---(2)

  • Now, multiplying equation (2) by 4, we get;

160 = 4h + 4g  \:  \: ----(3)

  • Subtracting equation (1) from equation (3), we get;

( 4h  +  4g) - (2h + 4g) = (160 - 112) \\ (4h - 2h)  + (4g- 4g) = 48 \\2 h = 48 \\ h = 24

  • Hence, number of hens in the shed is 24.
