Multi-purpose projects and dams benefits society by providing employment to the local population, as well as in electricity generation, water distribution, agriculture etc. But they have their problems too.
Natural flora and fauna are destroyed, to make way for setting up such projects. Dams and reservoirs submerge huge tracts of land under water. It displaces people too, depriving them of immediate livelihood. Unless such projects are well thought out and executed, it can lead to serious calamities such as flooding etc.
