Here ,

The given observations are ;

10 , 12 , 16 , 20 , p , 26 .

Also ,

The mean of the given observations is 17 .

Also ,

We know that ,

Mean = (sum of observations)/(no. of observations)

Thus ,

=> 17 = (10 + 12 + 16 + 20 + p + 26)/6

=> 17 = (p + 84)/6

=> 17•6 = p + 84

=> 102 = p + 84

=> p = 102 - 84

=> p = 18

Hence p = 18 .

(10 + 12 + 16 + 20 + 26 + p)/6 = 17

84 + p = 17 × 6

84 + p = 102
