NAGPUR: Following the complaints of residents regarding the operation of a cattle shed amid residential area of Deo Nagar, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has issued a notice to the shed owner and has granted him 15 days for filing a reply. The owner has allegedly encroached upon the roadside pavement by erecting a shed to keep his cattle.
After getting instructions from mayor Pravin Datke, a team from NMC visited the area for site inspection on Wednesday morning. Sources said that after the team left, the owner misbehaved the residents and even threatened them not to go against him. The residents then filed a complaint against the owner for threatening and abusing them at Dhantoli police station.
Assistant municipal commissioner of Laxmi Nagar zone Ganesh Rathod said that the notice has been issued under section 55 of the Monopolistic and Restrictive Trade Practices Act against illegal construction. “If he fails to file a satisfactory reply, NMC will go ahead with the action of demolishing the structure,” Rathod added.
NMC veterinary officer Dr Gajendra Mahalle said that the civic body has powers to seize cattle found on the road. “The problem will get solved after we demolish the encroachment as there would be no place left to keep cattle,” he said. Residents said that the owner had erected the shed about 20 days back on the footpath, despite strong opposition from the residents.
NMC got into action after residents put pressure and even approached the mayor to put forth their problems. According to them, the cattle shed had turned hazardous for their health. “Adding to our woes, the owner discharges dirty water on the road every morning after cleaning the dung and the water enters our premises too. A 14-year-old girl living on the first floor has caught malaria and many others are facing health problems due to growing unhygienic conditions,” said a resident.
TOI had earlier reported about the cattle shed operating hardly ten feet away from residential buildings in the posh locality of Deo Nagar. The residents had also submitted a memorandum of their complaints to Datke stating that the shed is disrupting their daily lives and also causing health hazards.
