There are 2 large muscles that help a bird to move it's wings up and down namely 1) pectoralis & 2)supracoracoideus.
- The supracoracoideus raises the wing while the pectoralis lowers it.
- The supracoracoideus lies in the angle between the keel and the plate of the sternum along the coracoid. It is able to achieve pully-like action.
- The pectoralis attaches directly to the head of the humerus lying above supracoracoideus.
- supracoracoideus is way smaller than the pectoralis in most birds.
