Explanation:

A Scottish girl sings a song as she uses a sickle to cut hay in the poem "The Solitary Reaper," which is about music. Although the narrator of the poem is unable to grasp what the girl is singing about, the melancholy beauty of the song stays with him "far after" the sound has faded. The poem makes a suggestion that art can transcend linguistic and cultural barriers in this way. Even in the absence of definite comprehension, art, as in the poem, can convey feeling or emotion. However, the poem also conveys some scepticism about poetry's ability to provide this connection in the same way that music does.
