Part of a longer sentence containing a subject and predicate is called a clause.

Ex1: I do not know why he is late .

I ( subject ) do not know ( predicate )….clause 1.

why… conjunction.

he( subject )is late .( predicate )….clause 2

Ex 2 :Though he is poor he is honest.

Though … conjunction

He( subject ) is poor( predicate )….clause 1.

he( subject ) is honest. ( predicate )….clause 2.

Why he came here is not yet clear.

Note: In the above sentence Noun clause ( subordinate clause) is used as the subject of the verb. It is a complex sentence .

Other Example :

Why he refused the offer is a mystery.

When she will come is still uncertain.

Whom the God loves die young.
