My biology teacher says that the notochord and vertebral column are the same. But I beg to differ. Can anyone tell me the difference between them.

Notochord is a thin thread like structure which runs on the dorsal side in chordates. But vertebral column is a thick structure made up of many small vertebra. The Notochord later convert into vertebral column in some organism and does not convert in some organisms.
The organisms in which Notochord gets converted into vertebral column are known as vertebrates and rest are non vertebrates.
