My brother and I plan to sell our two baseball card collections. I have 8008 cards and my brother has 11 319 cards. We can't be bothered to look up the values of the cards, so we're just going to bag them up at random and sell the bags as surprise packages. We're bagging up our own collections separately, but we want to put the same number of cards in all bags. What is the maximum number of cards we can put in each bag?

Given : I have 8008 cards and my brother has 11 319 cards.

want to put the same number of cards in all bags

To Find : What is the maximum number of cards we can put in each bag?

Solution:

To Find  the maximum number of cards  can put in each bag , need to find the HCF of  11319  and 8008

11319  = 8008 * 1  + 3311

8008  = 3311 * 2 +  1386

3311 = 1386 * 2 +  539

1386 = 539 * 2 +  308

539 = 308 * 1  +  231

308  = 231 * 1  +  77

231 =  77 * 3  + 0

Hence HCF = 77

the maximum number of cards  can put in each bag = 77
