My country is rich in the minerals and gems that lie beneath its soil, but I have always known
that its greatest wealth is its people. finer and truer than the purest diamonds. It is brom thos
comrades in the struggle that I learned the meaning of courage. Time and again I have seen men
and women risk and give their lives for an idea. I have seen men stand up to attacks and torture
without breaking, showing a strength and resilience that defies the imagination.

(a) What opinion does the author have about the people of South Africa?
(b) When do the people risk their lives, according to the passage?
(c) Pick out a word from the passage which means the ability to recuperate quickly after a shock
or injury

1) The author is of the opinion that people of his country are far more precious than diamonds and other valuable gems and minerals found beneath the soil in their country.

2) People risk their lives at times when they feel the danger on their integrity and nationality. Men and women stand as one and bear the torture and attacks in order to save the idea.

3) Resilience is the appropriate word.

4) I think the answer here will be stand up to, no other word seems appropriate.
