We hear sound through our ears the ears are the sense which help us in hearing sound the ear consists of three compartments.
outer ear middle ear and inner ear the part of ear which we see outside the head is called outer ear it consists of board funnel like part called pinna and about 2 to 3 centimeters long passages called ear canal at the end of the ear canal is a thin elastic and circular membrane called eardrum the eardrum is also called tympanum the sound waves are collected by the pinna of the outer ear.

Here is how it works -

Our ear is divided into three parts -

1. Outer ear.

2. Middle ear.

3. Inner ear.


The outer ear is known as Pinna, which collects the sound from the surroundings. This collected sound then passes through an auditory canal. At the end of auditory canal lies a thin membrane known as eardrum. When the compression reaches the eardrum it vibrates. These vibrations are later amplified several times by the three bones - The Hammer, anvil and stirrup. These vibrations are amplified in middle ear which transmits the amplified variations to the inner ear. Now, in the inner ear these variations are turned into electrical signals which are sent to brain by the auditory nerve and later the brain interprets it as sound which we hear.
