The Taj Mahal, is an ivory-white marble mausoleum on the right bank of the river Yamuna in the Indian city of Agra. It was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal; it also houses the tomb of Shah Jahan himself. The construction started in 1631 and the height is 73 m. Often described as one of the wonders of the world, the stunning 17th Century white marble Taj Mahal was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died in childbirth. The conventional story behind it is Shah Jahan's eternal love for Mumtaz begum. It has Islamic calligraphy inscriptions all over. The Taj Mahal is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The architecture of Taj Mahal is a combination of Islamic, Persian and Indian style. An immense mausoleum of white marble, built in Agra between 1631 and 1648 by order of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for his wife. he Taj Mahal is the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage.
