In an AP, every number in series increases or decreases by a common number.

Considering an AP like  $a$ ,  $a_{2}$ , $a_{3}$ , ....

first term, $a$ = -2

fifth term, $a_{5}$ = 26

==>  $a$ + (5-1) d = 26 [ as  $a_{n}$ =  

==>  $a$ + 4d = 26

==> -2 + 4d = 26

==> 4d = 28

==> d = 7

Therefore, $a_{3}$ = a + (3-1)d = -2 + 2(7) = -2 + 14 = 12

Also the series will be -2 , 5 , 12 , 19 and 26.
