Indirect/Reported Speech refers to speech being said to a third person/reporting what happened to a third person.

Example: Mike said,"I got first place in running." (Direct)

Mike said that he got first place in running. (Indirect)

In the above example, when writing in reported/indirect form, the sentence changes according to its tense. Also, modifications regarding certain words like 'can' changes to 'could', 'you' changes to 'I', 'yesterday' changes to 'the previous day', 'will' changes to 'would' and may other words will have to be made.

My friend said to me,"Good morning, I am happy to see you." (Direct)

My friend greeted me and added that he was happy to see me. (Indirect)

Hope it helps :)
