My most treasured belonging is not large or expensive, and although it may seem ordinary to most, it holds immense value to me. It is a refrigerator magnet of a Russian nesting doll which was given to me during a low point in my life. It serves as a reminder of the importance of human connection and empathy and how a small act of kindness can leave a lifelong impact on someone. When I was fourteen, my family and I went on a riverboat cruise on the Danube to celebrate my Oma's 80'th birthday. We went through Vienna, Hungary, Budapest, and Bratislava, to name a few. While this trip sounds nice in theory, and the actual land outings were, the rest of the cruise was horrendous. Firstly, it was a seniors cruise, so aside from the staff and my immediate family, my Oma was the youngest person on the ship. It's worth mentioning that due to the age range of the guests and their distinctly German origin, many of them were no-longer-youthful Hitler Youth. The Nazis were crotchety and very judgemental and harsh towards my brothers and I. Due to of the age of their guests, there was a strict ten P.M. curfew.
