Let your age be x.

Then your mother's age will be 2x + 12.

After 8 years,

Your age will be x + 8.

Your mother's age will be 3(x + 8) - 20 = 3x + 24 - 20 = 3x + 4.

This is equal to 2x + 12 + 8 = 2x + 20

2x + 20 = 3x + 4

3x - 2x = 20 - 4

= x = 16

Your age at now = 16

Your mother's age at now = 2 x 16 + 12 = 32 + 12 = 44

44 is the answer.

Hope this may be helpful.

Answer:

Your mother's age is 44 years.

Solution:

Let your age be x and your mother's age be y.

Given that mother's age is 12 years more than twice your age, i.e.,

y = 12 + 2x

y = 2x + 12               -----------------  (i)

After 8 years, the mother's age will be 20 years less than three times your age.

After 8 years, your age = (x + 8) years

Your mother's age = (y + 8) years

According to the question, we have

y + 8 = 3(x + 8) - 20

y + 8 = 3x + 24 - 20

y + 8 = 3x + 4

y = 3x + 4 - 8

y = 3x - 4           -----------------------  (ii)

Subtracting (i) from (ii), we get

y - y = (3x - 4) - (2x + 12)

0 = 3x - 4 - 2x - 12

0 = x - 16

16 = x

x = 16 years

Your age = x = 16 years

Your mother's age = y = 2x + 12

                               = 2(16) + 12

                                = 32 + 12

                                = 44 years

Hence, your mother's age is 44 years.
