Let my(narrator's) age be x
Then my mother's age be x + 27

A.T.Q,
x + x + 27 = 41
=> 2x +27 = 41
=> 2x = 14

If we solve this we will get $\bf{(my\:age)x=7}$
and my mother's age x + 27 = 34
