These last three lines are taken from " Night of Scorpions " which reflected that she was having mother love for children because she realised pain of scorpion sting then it would be horrible for her to see her children in pain therefore she thanked god that scorpion spared her children.

The answer is 1.These lines reveal that mothers are so caring, protective about their children that they don’t hesitate even risking their own lives for the sake of their children and family members. They sacrifice everything for the safety of their children. Here the mother was thankful to God for sparing her children from the scorpion’s bite. She did not blame Him for letting the scorpion bite her.
2. The phrase ‘picked on me' means ‘stung me’.
