Let the girl’s age be G and her mother’s age, M, now.

M = 4G …(1)

M+10 = 2(G+10), or

M = 2G+10 …(2)

Equate (1) and (2)

M = 4G = 2G + 10, or

2G = 10, or

G = 5 and so M = 20.

The girl is 5 years and the mother, 20 years, now.
