We can conserve and manage water resources by adopting river valley projects. This involves the construction of dams.... Small and big, on the main river and it's tributaries and creating reservoirs. Dams are hydraulic structures which can be built of Stone rubble and help creating lakes and reservoirs, embankments and canals for irrigation. Constructing dams dates back to the first century BC.
A dam is a reservoir ,lake or impoundment, created by a barrier built across the river. The barrier obstructs, directs or retards the flow of water. Most dams have a spillway or weir through which extra water flows.
Steps for water conservation.....
1) Judicious use and proper management of water resources.
2) Recycling of water / polluted water.
3) Partial or full treatment of wastes before discharging into water.
4) Drinking water should not be used for gardening, car and courtyard washing.
5) Rainwater should be allowed to collect in tanks, ponds and reservoirs.
6) Prevention of wastage which occur due to spilling, overflowing, leakages and damages of water pipelines.
Hope this will help you....
