the answer is B-increase friction

The reason this is the answer is because one of the main reasons for these grooves is wet weather driving. The grooves help the tires from hydroplaning and resulting in losing control of the vehicle. So the grooves add traction and are a safety feature

Question: Do Grooves in a tyre a)reduce friction b) increase friction c) make the tyres look rugged and strong d) has no effect on friction.

Answer

Option B, Grooves of a tyre increase friction. This is because, the type of surface influences the decrease or increase in friction. Rougher surfaces increase friction, while smoother surfaces decrease friction. Therefore Grooves of a tyre help increasing friction.
