  • Hume - Rothery rules :-

foe substitutional solid solution -

  1. the differences b/w radius of solute of solvent should be less than 15 % .
  2. The crystal structure of solute and solvent should be similar .
  3. The solute particles should be completely dissolved in solvent .
  4. In the solution electronegativity of solute and solvent should be similar .

for interstitial solid solution :-

  1. The differences between radius of solute and solvent should be more then 15% .
  2. the e.n should be similar .
  3. the valance of both elements ( solute and solvent ) should be equal .
