My question is......so far v are taught that 'a,e,i,o,u ' are the vowels in the english alphabets. when did letter 'U ' in case of 'UNIVERSITY ' be disregarded as a vowel?

We don't use an with university as when it is pronounced it is yooniversity so the sound of y comes
