my question is

why are cocoons killed to get silk

because we cannot get silk when it is an insect . when it is in a cocoon it is boiled to take the silk which is derieved only from the thread like substance by which a cocoon is formed .

because they produce thin thread like structure which is know as slik .this can be obtained by boiling silkworms or cocoons to get silk .this process i know as sericulture..
