English, asked by ilisanmartin, 18 days ago

My son is in 5th grade and his teacher has given him an assignment to identify the r-controlled vowels. However, the /ar/ looks like this /är/ and the other looks like this /âr/ and /ôr/? Then he has to use the words that fall under that category. The word list includes: heart, swear, aboard, squares, swore, chart, scorn, starch, source, fare, barge, thorn, marsh, force, harsh, scarce, coarse, flare, course, and sword. He is supposed to categorize them by those symbols, example: /âr/ /ôr/ /är/. But I don’t understand what those mean? Can you please help us understand what to do and how we can categorize them, properly? I will truly appreciate your help.
