Given:

My uncle went to Panchla on his motorbike, worked there for an hour and returned home after 3hrs 30min

If he maintained a uniform speed of 40km/hr

To find:

The distance of Panchla from his home

Solution:

Let "D" km be the distance of Panchla from his home.

∴ The total distance covered by my uncle = 2D

Uniform Speed, S = 40 km/hr

Also, we have,

Uncle returned home from Panchla after = 3\frac{30}{60} \:hrs =  3\frac{1}{2} \:hrs = \frac{7}{2}\:hrs

and

Uncle worked in Panchla for = 1 hr

∴ The time taken by my uncle to travel from home to Panchla and return back to home = \frac{7}{2} - 1 = \frac{7 - 2}{2} = \frac{5}{2}  \:hrs

Now, we know the formula as:

\boxed{\bold{Speed = \frac{Distance}{Time} }}

Therefore, substituting the values of speed = 40 km/hr, distance = 2D & time = \frac{5}{2} \:hrs in the above formula, we get

40 = \frac{2D}{\frac{5}{2} }

\implies 2D = 40 \times \frac{5}{2}

\implies 2D = 20 \times5

\implies D =   10 \times 5

\implies \bold{D = 50\:km}

Thus, the distance of Panchla form his home is 50 km.
