In 1 hour it loses 5 seconds.

Explanation:

It is stated that,

Everyday the watch loses 2 minutes.

We know that,

1 day = 24 hours.

∴ In 24 hours it loses 2 minutes.

In unitary method:

In 24 hours it loses 2 minutes

Hence, in 1 hour it loses = (2/24) minutes

                                        = (1/12) minutes

                                        = (1×60/12) seconds [∵ 1 minute = 60 seconds]

                                       = 5 seconds.

So, in 1 hour it loses 5 seconds.

In proportional method:

Let, the time loses by the watch in 1 hour be, 't'.

In 24 hours it loses 2 minutes.

Since, it is in direct proportion as the hour increases then the losing of time also increases and in the similar way if the hour decreases then the losing of time also decreases.

Hence,

   t:1 :: 2:24

⇒ t/1 = 2/24

⇒ t = 2/24

⇒ t = 1/12 minutes

⇒ t = (60× 1/12) seconds [∵ 1 minute = 60 seconds.]

⇒ t = 5 seconds.

Hence, the watch loses 5 seconds in each hour.
