What is Myopia?

Myopia is a condition where rays of light focuses in front of the retina instead of the retina. However, that focusing in front of the retina may be because of many reasons increase in curvature of cornea or lens, change in refractive index, increase in axial length..etc.

Myopia is due to the increase in converging power of eye lens is true statement.

  • Myopia, also known as short-sightedness, occurs due to the lengthening of the eyeball.
  • With  this defect, nearby objects can be seen clearly  but distant objects cannot be seen clearly.
  • The  focal length of the eye lens is reduced or the distance  between eye lens and retina increases.
  • Hence,  the far point will not be infinity for such eyes  and the far point has come closer.
