April 30,2000. I was 11 years old and living in the mountains of sikkim with my dad at a very remote place. This place was located at 5500ft above sea level. The place would receive so much rainfall during rainy season that it would go on for days and there would be landslides everywhere, sometimes the only road connecting to the nearby town would get blocked by landslides or it would just slide down itself hampering the normal life for months. And lightening loved this place so much that every season we would hear about the imprints of its kiss on the ground from people though i hadn't seen it in person so far. So,back to the story, its sunday my father has gone to the town to bring groceries and i am home alone. Sky is gloomy and roaring, warning of imminent downpour. Suddenly hailstorms starts hitting down on the tin roof of our house,i couldn't be more happy,i take out umbrella and start gamboling in the hailstorms embedded rain. While i am playing something happens.Like a gap in the moment ,of barely a second ,like there is voltage fluctuation and your television goes off and comes back again within a second. When the moment resumes i find myself lying on the ground ,feeling very weak.I try to get up but i can’t and its raining so hard. I crawl to the nearby house taking support of the railings and sit beside the man in the house(we knew each other) and tell him that i fell down because thats what i think happened. After a while i start to feel burning sensation on my chest and around the belly and it was growing worse. I got irritated and when i tried to look what is it i was horrified to see my skin all black. When i showed it to the oldman sitting beside me he screamed in horror “THE BOY HAS BEEN HIT BY LIGHTENING” and gathered everyone around. When my father arrived back i was taken to the hospital and spent the next one week over there. What was more astonishing that the burn had a weird pattern there was a palm sized patch on my left thigh and then leaving the vitals it had resumed from near the belly button upto the chest again sparing the vital(face) and there was a red lining i could see on the left leg probably an inflammed nerve. Afte some hour of the incident we heard that lightening had hit some distance down our home from where our our water pipe would pass and i was probably standing on the pipe when the incident happened, thats what we could logically figure out.
